Multi-disciplinary acute stroke unit
The acute stroke unit of the St Vincenz hospital is in charge of the treatment of patients suffering from an acute apoplectic stroke (cerebral infarction, cerebral haemorrhage, sinus thrombosis).
It is equipped with four treatment places for monitoring and acute treatment, six beds for further treatment and a room for physical therapy.
The team of the unit consists of doctors of the departments of neurology and clinical medicine, specially trained nurses, physical therapists, logopaedists and ergotherapists.
The team organises subsequent rehabilitation.
The unit's objectives are to provide a quick multi-disciplinary diagnosis of the causes of the apoplectic stroke (heart, cerebral circulation, risk factors), an improvement of acute treatment (e.g. by lysis therapy) and an early rehabilitation of neurological failures.
