Medical intensive care unit
The medical intensive care unit (MICU) is an 8-bed unit with a focus on the treatment of patients suffering from non-surgical critical illnesses.
In particular, we care for patients with cardiac infarctions, life-threatening arrhythmia, and cardiovascular collapse as well as patients suffering from acute or chronic pulmonary insufficiency who are in need of artificial respiration. Furthermore, we treat patients with life-threatening infectious diseases, internal bleeding, acute intoxication, metabolic disorder as well as inflammations of the pancreas and hepatic failure.
Therapy is carried out in close cooperation with our colleagues from the departments of haemato-oncology, nephrology and neurology. The team of the intensive care unit guarantees 24-hour cover for emergency cases and resuscitation in case of acute cardiovascular collapse or respiratory arrest on non-surgical units.
The DRK's mobile intensive care unit based at our hospital is staffed by doctors from the departments of anaesthesia, surgical intensive medicine and pain therapy as well as the department of clinical medicine.
