Nutrition team
The nutrition team looks after patients in need for a supportive dietotherapy. The team consists of a nurse and three diet assistants. The team's main focus is the nutritional advisory service and care for patients who suffer from deficiency symptoms because of tumours or neurological disorders. Which therapy is employed depends on the individual problems the respective patient has with food consumption.
The team provides patients with:
- Additional and liquid nutrition
- Feeding tube nutrition
- Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
The nurse in the team controls the patient's blood picture and weight during the therapy. Furthermore, she trains the patients and their relatives in using the diverse pump systems, calculates the patient's demand and coordinates relatives and nursing services. In addition to the treatment of patients suffering from malnutrition, the nutrition team offers a nutritional advisory service. The given advice is individualised and based on the recommendations of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Ernaehrung (German Society for Nutrition (DGE)).
The team takes care of patients suffering from:
- Obesity and lipopathy
- Diseases of the liver, kidneys and pancreas
- Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Food allergies
Substantial computer software helps the diet assistants to analyse nutrition protocols and calculate protein-reduced diets for the therapy of liver or kidney diseases.
