On 1 November 2001, the Institute for dental implantation (IZI) was opened. It is run by Roland Streckbein MD and Rainer Hassenpflug MD. The institute's services cover counsel and treatment of patients in the field of dental implantology as well as postgraduate studies for dentists in this new field of dentistry. The implantological courses are organised in cooperation with the German Society for Oral and Dentofacial Implantology (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Implantologie im Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferbereich e.V., DGI). The contents are prescribed by the DGI. Until the end of 2002, more than 600 dentists from all over Germany have taken part in the IZI's courses.
