Department of urology

The department of urology covers the non-surgical and surgical treatment of benign and malign diseases of the kidneys and the lower urinary tract as well as the male genitals.

We perform endoscopic and open surgery, such as the destruction of stones in kidneys, bladder or lower urinal tract and operations to the prostate gland. As the destruction of kidney stones or bladder calculus is induced by extracorporeal shockwaves, colics, which usually cause severe pain, can often be avoided. Having been applied by specialised clinical centres for some years, this treatment, which professionals refer to as extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), is now available at the St Vincenz hospital as well.

Children who come to our department for treatment are accommodated and cared for in our multi-disciplinary department of paediatrics (if required with an accompanying person).
