Institute for pathology / supra-regional group practice

Pathology is concerned with causes, development and prognosis of diseases. The medical doctors Christian Gustmann, Manfred Karhoff, Ulrich Stahl, Jens-Uwe Alles, Susanne Heib and Ulrich Feek conduct an autonomous institute for pathology which is affiliated to the St Vincenz hospital.
Microscopical examination of filmy slices of tissue provides the clinical doctor with important information for the treatment of patients, at times even during an ongoing operation. The institute covers the full spectrum of the latest examination methods of pathology, including immunohistological and molecular biological techniques, as well as cytological prophylaxis of cancer.

The institute for pathology has been collaborating with other group practices for pathology or dermatohistology (Marburg, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt/ Main) in the supra-regional network 'Netzwerk Pathologie' (http://www.netzwerk-pathologie.de) for quite a long time. The network furthers and fosters the trusting collaboration of the many colleagues who have joined it. It is its objective to further the prompt development of expertise and the specialisation of individual doctors concerning diagnostic or methodological and scientific fields.
Furthermore, consultations within the network in case of diagnostic problems are an important element of quality assurance. QA is also provided by round robin tests, which are performed following the rules prescribed by scientific associations, as well as by regular conferences (quality circles), which are held by authorised colleagues.
